Lesson one

Social Studies 11

Here are the powerpoint slides to give you all an idea of what to expect. I am excited about this new semester, and look forward to having a great experience with each and every one of you. I am passionate about social studies and look forward to transferring my passion into an enjoyable class for you! It is my goal to make social studies fun and a class you look forward to attending.

There will be a short quiz taking place on Friday February 5th. The quiz will likely be out of 15 marks.

I will post homework at the end of each day.


  • Tuesday February 2nd - Introduction to Human Geography: World population, Demographics, Distribution, Rule of Seventy. Homework for today's class is --> Read pages 317 324, answer page 324 question 1. a and b
  • Wednesday February 3rd - Dependency Ratio: Population distribution by age, country, gender, who are dependents? Homework for today's class is --> What does ecumene refer to? what is population distribution? what does population density refer to? How does population density affect carrying capacity? What technological changes have occurred to increase carrying capacity? Read pages 328-336.
  • Thursday February 4th - Standards of living: Is it fair for everyone? How do we measure standards of living? Where are standards of living the highest? where are they the lowest? Division of the planet. Homework for todays class is --> paragraph about yourself. Study for the quest tomorrow.
  • Friday February 5th- The Dreaded Poverty Trap What is the poverty trap? how do countries and people fall into this so called "trap"? What can we do to get out? Don't forget the test. Homework for todays class is --> Read pages 347-351 in your textbook. Have a great weekend! P.S. I have your quizzes marked and read your paragraph. I will hand those back on Monday.
